Materials

Kermel® Viscose

This fabric is a mix of Kermel® 50% meta-aramid blended with 50% FR viscose to produce a lightweight flexible high performance fire-resistant material. When produced in a knitted form it produces a very soft and comfortable garment that is hard to beat in situations where heat, flash and flame may be encountered. Kermel® is manufactured by Rhone-Poulenc. Common applications include: Assault coveralls, flight-suits, gloves, balaclavas. Best used in a layering system.

Nomex®

The inherently flame-resistant properties provided by DuPont NOMEX® mean that those who rely on it are safe and protected from the hazards they face on the job every day. This advanced thermal technology was created more than 30 years ago when DuPont scientists created a fibre with an extraordinary combination of high-performance heat- and flame-resistant properties, as well as superior textile characteristics. Common applications include: Police overalls, Special Forces coveralls and assault suits, gloves, balaclavas, undergarments and flight suits to name a few. Sometimes found in conjunction with KEVLAR® making extremely strong fire-resistant garments that are ideal for the purpose of the Emergency Services

Kevlar®

KEVLAR® is an advanced technology from DuPont that helps transform ordinary products into extraordinary ones. It combines high strength with light weight, and comfort with protection. Products made with KEVLAR® range from protective apparel and sports equipment to automotive parts and ropes used on the Mars Pathfinder. KEVLAR® is 5 times stronger than steel on an equal weight basis, yet, at the same time, is lightweight, flexible and comfortable. Often found in Ballistic, Cut, and Slash-resistant items: a favourite for the flexible inners of ballistic vests. When used in a laminate form with polymer resins it provides very high impact resistant shells which can be found in multiple ballistic applications.

Gore-Tex® and Windstopper® Fabrics

Gore-Tex® and Windstopper® fabric is specifically engineered to form an impenetrable barrier against wind and water while maintaining breathability. The most tested and most trusted windproof, waterproof, breathable fabric. Widely used by the police and military around the world. Often found in lightweight over jackets, boots and gloves. The main advantage of Gore-Tex® is its ability to prevent the user getting damp from moisture build up in the garment is its ability to let moisture through from the body whilst keeping water out.

Polycotton

Polycotton blends are made when natural fibres such as cotton are woven with man-made material such as polyester. This can help to make the resulting fabric more durable, more resistant to creasing, breathable and less likely to lose its colour; this makes it ideal for use in clothing applications. Items likely to be made of Polycotton include Smocks, trousers, t-shirts and undergarments. Note: Polycotton is non-fire-resistant.

Leather

Leather has been around forever as one of the most versatile natural products on the planet. Leather can be rigid or flexible, rot-resistant and mouldable. All these qualities make it ideal for use in the Law enforcement and Military sectors. The armies of the world have used this product for centuries. There are many synthetic alternatives but for sheer versatility it is hard to beat. Many types of leather are available including Kangaroo, Lamb, Buffalo, Cow, Pigskin and Nappa to name but a few.

Neoprene

Neoprene polychloroprene is an extremely versatile synthetic rubber with 70 years of proven performance in a broad industry spectrum. It was originally developed as an oil-resistant substitute for natural rubber. Neoprene is noted for a unique combination of properties, which has led to its use in thousands of applications in diverse environments.

Spectra®

Spectra® fibre is one of the world’s strongest and lightest fibres. A bright white polyethylene, it is, pound-for-pound, ten times stronger than steel, more durable than polyester and has a specific strength that is 40 percent greater than aramid fibre.
